Saving for the Farm

$140.27.  Nancy handed me a green cover for the deposit register to symbolize a farm.

When I was little my mother had me split up all of my money into three jars.  Ten percent went to savings, ten percent went to church, and the rest I could do as I pleased.  Doug and I lived annoyingly paycheck to paycheck, credit card to credit card until we finally lost our house seven years ago and starting renting farms, which just keeps backfiring on us.  Still, with our own business for seven years, and no set paycheck, we just don’t sock anything away for very long.  I don’t particularly trust banks but that coffee can is just too easy of reach.  Cash spends quickly for this or that or survival or new candles or books.

I took over our finances a long time ago.  Doug is brilliant at math and accounting but seven years ago when he had his nervous breakdown, paying bills and looking at the accounts was just stressing him out even more.  And I like to control everything.  Let’s be honest.  Alright, so here I am with our accounting.  “I am going to save $500 dollars this month!” I declare smartly.  But if I don’t have five hundred dollars to save, I don’t save anything.  No one is handing me awards for financial genius, y’all.  $140.27 went into a bank account.  One that I can easily move money into.  Twenty dollars here, ten dollars there, oh please five hundred often!

The housing market is out of control in Colorado and I feel that it is impossible to afford anything here.  The houses have jumped three times in price since last year even.  But there I am limiting myself.  How did I get into my shop?  Kindness and good luck.  How did I find this apartment?  Kindness and good luck.  How did I?….my life is filled with stories of help, great timing, and good luck.

What are your goals?  If we think as far as our limited brain capacity allows in this huge universe of magic we will be ever discouraged.  But there is so much more working in our behalf, dreams unfolding, doors opening, timing ticking, and all we have to do is have faith, dream, manifest, and prepare.  Twenty dollars and a prayer at a time.
