The Good Life Map

Isn’t life interesting?  How it changes and ebbs and flows from one experience to another?  Always opening doors to dreams and lessons and then moving us through to the next bend.  It all can be breathtakingly beautiful in its innate simplicity and flow.

I went for a job interview yesterday.  I got it, but realized that I really do not want to go back to working the same old things I have done off and on since I was sixteen.  I gave my apothecary to my daughter, Shyanne.  Yes, I am tired of expensive printers, and labels, and sales taxes, and such but I gave it to her because I can think of no better gift to give her than a career and a set business.

“I don’t know what I can do.  I need to do something!” I mentioned to a friend over coffee about jobs.  “You can always teach,” was her reply.

I had said (oh, how many times have I said things and then changed my mind?!) that I didn’t want to teach anymore.  Why?  Because my classes are three months long!  It then occurred to me that I made that up, I can change it!  Ha!  We forget our own power of decision.  I will be teaching a six week Certified Herbalist Course.  I’ll start each week with tea, a bit of ceremony and camaraderie.  They will learn all the important things they need.  Ditch the text book.  Teach them real herbalism.  Make it less expensive so it can help more people.  And it helps me.

We often forget the power of decisions.  We can manifest anything we wish, but we are also at the mercy of fate.  So, make simple changes to make your life better, and breathe.  Your gifts are your map to your good life.

The Third Step to Achieving Your Goals (and bring on 2018!)

20171226_192715How wonderful that we will have a full moon tomorrow night, a Super Moon at that.  Perfect for manifesting those deep seeded intentions!

By now you have looked at what you want to transpire in 2018.  You have examined fears that may hold you back.  Respected that dreams are imbedded into your path for a reason.  You see the reasons behind what you want.  You know it will make you a better person and make your life better, therefore making you a happier person and a person who has the ability to help others.  Now.  We make it happen.

Fire and full moon are a spectacular ways to use high frequency power to send your desires out to the universe.  You have many helpers beyond the screen.  Ancestors, friends, angels, the universal web of information and wisdom, plus all the information stored in your DNA, chakras, and in the spirits all around you.  You got this.

You should have your resolutions written down in a prominent place, like the first page of a journal or a daytimer so that you can see them often.  Now, write on slips of paper each desire, each intention, each dream.  Focus on them intently.

Write down the things that you wish to release on other pieces of paper.  Perhaps of a different color.

In a blazing fire, focus on the things to release first.  Then one by one throw them in the flame.  As the smoke rises it will take your notes to the skies.  Then repeat with the manifestations.  You just increased your success by 90%!  Now the rest is up to you.  If you want a new job, go apply.  If you want a strong body, start a yoga class.  Get out there and be the best person you can.  And know that your soul is perfect, therefore you are as well.  Be kind to yourself.  Speak lovingly to your body.  Love all that cross your path.

Happy New Year Everyone.

The Second Step to Achieving Your Goals

snow

Resolutions are meant to make us better people.  Goals and dreams are set into our hearts to guide us on this journey.  Listen to your spirit when setting your intentions for the new year.

Okay so you want to be size six, never eat donuts again, and travel to Malaysia…

Looking at your goals, why is that your resolution?  Why do you want to lose weight?  Get in shape?  Eat better?  Travel?  Be kinder?  Start a business?  Change your life?  Once you see those answers clearly you will find the passion that will drive them.  Your passion and your clarity will make it manifest.  Simple phrases and ideas will do nothing but flutter away in the new year’s wind.

Be clear.  “I want to pay off 5% of our debt this year.  I want to pay off debt because it is keeping us from living the life we want and causes undue stress on our relationship.  I will start a Dave Ramsey debt snowball (pay off one debt, then use that money to add to another debt, and keep it rolling!) and get the small loan and half of the car paid off.

Now I must make that designated money untouchable.  It cannot be used to buy donuts or go to Malaysia.

The key to this is one moment at a time.  I can get myself so worked up over food choices that by day three I am out at an all-you-can-eat buffet.  One meal.  Plan one day’s worth of healthy food.  Save a few bills at a time in an envelope for an emergency fund.  Plan a reasonable budget and stick with it.  Dedicate time to meditate and do yoga in the morning.  But don’t forget why those things are intentions.

Why do you want to set your resolutions?  What passion drives them?

The Land of Enchantment; Dreaming Big

second-7

I have come to the Land of Enchantment.  I know that New Mexico is known for that,  I had been trying to get there for close to a decade, but I found this Land of Enchantment along the path.  As a Colorado native, I have no idea how this beautiful place so close to where I have lived has eluded me.  As I crest the hill past Fountain I know I am almost home because the entire landscape changes.  Cholla cactuses take over the fields and the colors mute and brighten, and the air always feels like spring.

second-8

Many mornings I am met with a magical veil of fog.  This city is filled with lakes.  It is more humid here and my skin loves it.  This morning the sky was a shade of lavender at sunrise.  It is a very special place here.

second

Because it is one of the warmest places in the state, the birds love it here.  Eagles, hawks, falcons, geese, ducks, sea gulls, and many birds I am yet to identify.  Many plants I am yet to identify.  I am still getting to know the land.  There are many things I do not know yet.

second-4Here’s what I do know; we were given a gift.  “Be very specific to the universe in your requests,” our friend told us when we first became homeless.  “Think big!”

second-9

An adobe home with real wood floors throughout.  A woodstove, a large kitchen, a place to entertain, a guest room, a root cellar, a large area to garden and be self sufficient.  A fenced yard, a chicken coop, a front porch, somewhere between out in the middle of nowhere and inner city.  And please close to our kids and Maryjane.  Oh, and a warmer climate.

pumpkin

That is the very thing we got.  The exact specifications.  Amazing, huh?  Just have faith in the process here.  What do you really desire?  Careful what you wish for!  Be specific.  Make sure it won’t harm anyone.  Then go…put it out there in exact detail and watch as it manifests into your life!

Unmanifesting; Cleaning Up Our Garden of Life

plant

I write plenty about manifesting.  It completely astounds me every time how efficiently, and rather quickly, one can manifest an idea or dream.  In fact this time last year when I wrote in my resolutions that we would manifest a farm, I scarcely believed it.  Looking at the exorbitant jump in house prices in my state and our humble income, it just didn’t seem possible.  Yet, when one wishes for it, everything truly is possible.  And in less than three weeks we will move onto our very own homestead.  But what about unmanifesting?

There are some things we must unmanifest in order to move forward.  If simple words uttered to the universe can create whirlwinds of activity to create the outcome, one can imagine that words that create harm can also manifest.  It’s time we dug up poisonous seeds.

plant-3

In a bar some twenty years ago a young man holding a beer jokingly looked at my hand and “read my palm”, never mind that he was wrong about me having four children or that my first marriage would last forever, he said that I would have cancer in my early forties.  It was just a moment in a bar.  But, those words stuck with me.  My lymph nodes have been swollen for a good part of the year and I am tired.  I know with every fiber of my being that this is stress.  A year of tremendous loss followed by a year of working non-stop.  But, that seed…ugh, it’s gotta go.

It is time to dig up that seed and throw it in a river somewhere.  Same with all the times growing up I was told how big my nose was.  How my voice was irritating.  How my laugh was obnoxious.  The times as an adult that I was told Doug would never stay with me.  The times I felt worthless.  Any seed that was planted that has not born good fruit we must dig up, and do not even put them into the compost pile, but rather dispose of them once and for all.

plant-2

This season, I would encourage you to think of what seeds were planted in your garden of life that are harmful or deceitful and dig them up.  This year we only manifest good and prosperous and beautiful.  Because that is what you are.

The Sun and Moon Meet (so what does a full moon on solstice mean?)

moon.jpg

The moon was full a few hours ago.  The first time that the moon has been full on the summer solstice since 1948.  The large moon meets the strongest day for the sun.  This is more significant than one would think.

At my shop the tops of the canning jars holding hundreds of jars of medicine are popping.  The herbs move.  The fluid they are suspended in changes colors.  The medicine will be ready.  The medicines that go out into the full moon of June are always the most brilliantly colored and generally the strongest medicine I will make all year.  The full moon changes the frequency of the medicine (remember everything is energy) making it match our bodies unique energy level.  The moon cycles control the ocean, women’s cycles, and have a great influence on farming, and on medicine making.

All my medicines go through the sun as well.  This often surprises people since the little dark bottles at the health food store take such good care to not show their faces to the great sun.  Think sun tea.  It infuses the herbs.  The sun is our ally.  It detoxifies the skin, creates natural vitamin D, controls our moods, and sets our internal clocks.  The sun is as powerful as the moon for my medicines.  (I do not cut my medicines like common tinctures so I never worry about loss of energy or mold.)

So here today we have the longest day for the sun, the change of season is upon us, and the moon is there to greet the sun.  This will have a powerful influence not just on medicines and plants, but on us as well.

This is a time to become your strongest self.  The frequency is right, the season is new, it is time to be renewed.  Change is swirling all around us and it is time to really look inward and focus on our utmost important intentions.  Not your intentions for anyone else, just you.  Time to release all that is past.  Release anything not adding to your life.  Release any habits, jobs, relationships, old ideas, anything that may have been there for too long keeping you stagnant.

Focus intently on new ideas, jobs, relationships, place of living, creative ideas, and passions.  It is time to manifest the place we want to be.  To be the person we want to be.

I know I have allowed myself to become too busy.  The things I have done over the years were done with Doug but without his help I have taken on too much.  Too much time working in the shop, teaching others, volunteering for things, trying to do everything at home, at work, and for others.  I need to scale back a smidge.  My medicines and my peace of mind will suffer.  I will think today on how I can make changes to make my work and my personal life lead to the most balance.  What are my priorities?  What are yours?

I really need a bonfire to be dancing around in the moonlight tonight to bring it all to being but I guess my oil lamp and a journal will do.  Happy Solstice!  Summer is here!

Illustrating Your Dreams Into Reality

Schweden

Well, the New Year is upon us and we have a picture painted of our year to come.  Or do you?  It is time to illustrate your life!  When you draw or write something out that is your heart’s desire it will take on that shape.  This is the letter that Doug and I wrote to the universe and all its helpers, the Creator, and whoever else can help.

Dear Universe,

We would like a farm.  We would like to make a living farming.  We would like to make enough to travel a little, save, live simply, and comfortably (for us).

We would like to be on a well.  We would like solar/wind power.  Small units that give what we need for small appliances and electronics.  We would like a root cellar.

We would like to not have a mortgage.  A small house with an open kitchen, living space, loft bedroom, built in bunk beds, and bedroom with half wall.  Open hearth and wood stove.  About 800 square feet.

We would like to be near Maryjane, our shop, our children, and our communities.  In trees with open pasture and arable land.

We would like to have farm animals; goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, cows, turkeys, horses, donkey, and a dog.  Oh, and a small pond.  We need to not worry about keeping our farm so we need to make x amount.

Wado.  Thank you. Love, Doug and Katie

Now, this is in the works now.  But I can’t just sit back and wait.  What can I do to help prepare?  I can try and save xy amount each month.  I can get our student loans back up to date.  I can plan and collect moving boxes and get the seed catalogues out.  I can make connections with other farmers and figure out where I am getting my animals.  I can research dog breeds.  I can dream but I also need to live today.  I do tend to get consumed.

For resolutions like going to the gym, juicing, canning, et cetera, make your plan and then cut it in half.  Tell yourself you only have to do it half of your original plan.  If you do it more, than score!  But you take the pressure off of yourself and are far more likely to succeed.

Okay, start writing and share it here!

New Year’s Project Day 1

Five days until the new year begins.  Just another day, but still in my heart the dawn will shine bright and this year will be but a whisper in time.

flare-bonfire-vector_21000964

We will be starting a new tradition this year.  At Pat and Rodney’s house, after Pat and I make a delicious celebratory dinner and before we sing karaoke until the new year, we will write on slips of paper.  Write.  Each bad happening.  Each disappointment.  Each bad habit we want to change.  One by one they will slip into the roaring fire of New Year’s Eve and dissipate.  Then we will write each thing we want to manifest.  Send it the universe in a prayer of smoke.  A symbolic resolution.

I will be glad to see 2016’s hopeful face.

And for the next few days leading up to the New Year I will lead you through an exercise.  Not necessarily writing down that you promise to go to the gym six days a week and drink green smoothies for the entire year but really big things.  We are all going to manifest what we want.  Document.  Detail.  Release what we need to release.  Heal broken hearts.  And start whirling into motion exactly what we want.

Doug and I bought a calendar last night.  Of baby goats.  Let the manifesting begin.  Start thinking about what you are ready to release and manifest.  It’s going to be a good year.

Writing on the Chalk Board (novels, vineyards, and Cherokees)

Such an interesting interim.  I am surprised at how many people have told us about going through similar situations.  It is as if life just sporadically erases the chalk board so we can live a different life or a better one.

baby celt

We have been keeping ourselves busy with the Celtic Festival this weekend.  I bet I talked to a hundred people.  Where else would a hundred people stop and talk to me?  Only in Elbert County.  We are at a place now where we are writing down ideas, desires, questions, and dreams.  Where do we want to live?  We are considering Elbert County.  We are really considering the western slope of Colorado (vineyards and farms, y’all!).  That one was Doug’s idea.  The same distance away is Taos.  My dream.  But, I got vetoed again.  Doug really wants to stay in Colorado.  We want the kids near us.  Will they follow us?

“Will you be homeless for long?” one of my favorite vendors asked caringly.

“Oh, I wouldn’t think so,” was my reply.  No, Doug and I are not ready to choose a bridge design to live under.  We are far too ambitious for that.  But we don’t want to rush into anything.

family celt

My downfall is that I panic and we take the first place available.  That thus far has not worked out for us.  So, even though we have a general base of what we want that we agree on, we are listening.  A possible job offer came up for Doug but would he be happy there?  A homesteading couple has an idea for us we are discussing Monday.  We can manifest anything we want which is why we have to be careful what we wish for.  I manifested the opportunity to live in a shed on someone else’s land. (Remember that post?) Whoops.  This time we want a two story adobe house on a hundred acres!  We are listening to murmurs and whispers and contacts and choosing a path.

A man from one of the clans at the festival got an enchanted look on his face and walked towards me.

“I see a Cherokee Princess,” he said in all seriousness.

I was shocked.  “How did you know I was Cherokee?”

He said he was Cherokee as well.  I said that I noticed a lot of folks were Cherokee and Scottish/Irish.  He said that was because when the Scots came over to North Carolina and the east (my grandfather landed in 1716) they noticed that they had very similar religions as the Indians.  What folks consider Wiccan now was considered normal practice with the Celts, a deep reverence for the Earth, and symbols of things in nature matched up with the Native religions.  That made sense.  It is part of what my novel is about that I have been writing and filled me with a few more ideas.

Will I be the next JK Rowling?  Will Doug be a professional pool player?  Will we own a vineyard?  Will we….?

Setting Yourself Free (Part 5- Letting Go and Dreaming New)

IMG_1317

I have written many times about how to manifest your dreams.  Write them down, set a goal list, talk about them, and watch them turn into reality!  It is a science.  It works.  What I haven’t written about is what happens when that dream comes true then gets taken away?  How do you restart?  How do you manifest a new existence when the circumstances are being laid out for you.

Someone responded on my blog post Sunday that they hope I find what I am looking for.  That bothered me all day because I did find what I was looking for!  I am living on my homestead!  I had trouble putting the hand clothes washer for sale.  What if I need it?  Folks, I haven’t used it in two years!  BUT, what if I get my off grid homestead and don’t have a washer?!  Things to think about, people.  I put it up for sale anyway.  I know we have nesting instincts and want to be prepared and all, but I am starting to look around and realize I am prepared to have a dinner party for seventy-five people! I have three tables, cupboards of dishes, closets of clothes when we only wear a few outfits, and things we just do not use.

IMG_1310

We went walking in Castlewood Canyon yesterday.  A miraculously beautiful and peaceful place, it balms the soul and brings calm with its breathtaking features.

IMG_1308

Doug and I talked and then fell into silence.  We would bring up ideas, then fall into silence.  For an hour we walked, sat, dreamed, talked.  This homestead isn’t really what we wanted after all.  If we are going to live thirty feet from someone on a homestead they need to be likeminded folks.  We also talked about how the most devastating part is behind us.  The loss of our animals was difficult and the death of our dream was too.  But now as each thing leaves the house, as we sell off one more piece of furniture, fill one more bag for charity, sell one more pile of things, we are beginning to feel something we really have never felt, liberated.  We are daring to dream of another existence.

IMG_1309

Perhaps I can speak at herb conferences.  Perhaps we can be so light on possessions that it is nothing to pick up and head around the country writing about farms.  Or visiting friends.  We are free.  We need to get a backpack.

IMG_1305

For the next 18 months or so I am going to step back from my ego.  Seek out teachers for herbalism and Permaculture and whatever else the wide world thinks I ought to learn.  Guitar lessons, continue my wine classes, who knows?  Improve my art and maybe get my things in a gallery?  Or just enjoy homesteading with my co-homesteading compatriots.  I want to be more quiet, more helpful, more creative.  There are wine bars, and restaurants, and ice cream shops all down the strip near our new home that beckons to be tried out.  Each and every one.

IMG_1307

I will be with my husband.  My closest friend.  I could walk with him forever.  What do we need with all these possessions?

IMG_1306

A lot of folks right now have had major transitions or on the brink of them.  Maybe take a little time today to write down what you would like to do (or not do) in the next year.  Then gather up a bag for charity and let some things go.  Let us let ourselves go.
